Artist profile

Paula Borel is a Tokyo-based artist and bookbinder whose work is a tribute to the 'textures of the everyday.' Operating under the studio name atelier_pbg, she specializes in linocut prints inspired by Tokyo’s urban infrastructure and folk icons. Committed to the philosophy of mottainai, she breathes new life into salvaged materials—using vintage kimono fabrics and antique book pages as the foundation for her contemporary prints. Her art serves as a bridge between Japan’s storied past and its modern, electric pulse.

The journey:  Before uncovering her creative practice, Paula trained and worked in the fields of veterinary medicine, biology and clinical research. The transition into expat life completely shifted her trajectory, unleashing a hidden artistic side that reshaped her worldview.

(The Philosophy)

(The Journey)

Sowing Spring Seeds: Kit Nagamura (Mar 14-15, 2026)

Sowing Spring Seeds: Kit Nagamura (Mar 14-15, 2026)

Kit Nagamura has lived in Tokyo for more than three decades, and works as a poet, photographer, and painter.  Her long-running Japan Times column, titled “The Backstreet Stories,” as well as her numerous appearances on NHK World’s “Journeys in Japan” have taken her the width and breadth of the country, where she finds inspiration in the beauty of the country.

Nagamura studied art at Rhode Island School of Design as an undergraduate, and did illustrations for numerous magazines and book covers.  While trained in representational art, her recent exhibitions in Tokyo, Osaka, Wakayama (and upcoming in Miami) reveal a leaning toward the abstract, employing layers of washi, mineral pigments, ephemera, and recycled substrates to summon a deeper emotional and poetical response.

This show, Sowing Spring Seeds, will benefit Global Girls Glow (https://globalgirlsglow.org/) an international foundation which mentors girls around the world to become powerful advocates and confident leaders, a fundamental necessity for healthy societies.

本展「Sowing Spring Seeds(春の種をまく)」の収益の一部は、Global Girls Glowglobalgirlsglow.org)に寄付されます。
