Looking for a space to just... create, without the pressure of a final masterpiece?
Join us on Saturday, September 5th, for an intimate, experimental afternoon where live music meets visual expression.
This is not an art class. There are no techniques to master, no critiques, and absolutely no experience required. Instead, think of it as a creative playground. Tokyo-based musician David Sweet will perform live, improvisational loops and melodies on the mandolin and ukulele, while the rest of us draw, doodle, and respond to the sound in real-time.
Jennifer Shinkai will guide us through a few light, playful drawing prompts to help break the ice and quiet your inner critic.
We are keeping this gathering incredibly small—strictly limited to 5 people—so we can keep it cozy, conversational, and deeply personal. Come drink some tea, listen to beautiful live strings, and see where your pen takes you.

Meet Your Hosts
David Sweet
David Sweet is a Tokyo-based musician and songwriter leading Barefoot Lunch, an eclectic music project blending folk, indie, electronics, and unexpected turns along the way. Drawing inspiration from both Eastern and Western influences, the music mixes melody, storytelling, humor, and a touch of wandering curiosity. Though new to live performance, Barefoot Lunch grew out of a long love of music, books, long runs, countless bottles of red wine, and the belief that songs should feel human rather than polished to death. Their debut EP, Dipping a Toe In, was released in 2026.

Jennifer Shinkai
Jennifer Shinkai is an accomplished Tokyo-based facilitator and executive coach who spent years helping people find clarity in their professional lives before reconnecting with her own creative pulse. In 2020, she made an intentional return to her lifelong love of art, rediscovering the joy of making things just for the sake of making them. Jennifer brings her rich background in space-holding and community-building to this session—not as an art teacher, but as a fellow traveler eager to help others unlock a sense of playful curiosity, quiet the inner critic, and enjoy the messy, beautiful process of creation.
