#IAmRemarkable x RGF Executive Search

I was delighted to deliver my 23rd probono #IAmRemarkable workshop and reconnect with the recruitment industry (where I spent 12 years of my career in Sales, Training and Marketing at en world) partnering with 10 members of RGF Executive Search X-tech division at their Tokyo office.

In each session, I get different takeaways as a facilitator based on what the unique blend of participants brings to the session.

1. The power of permission - when someone else shares an achievement it allows us to reflect on a) how that might be similar to something we have experienced and b) how we might also share that as an accomplishment in the future (even if we judged it as not remarkable enough at first)

2. The importance of recognising milestones: We might not think that our achievement is remarkable enough due to our ambition and future expectations. How can we acknowledge that the fact we did X is remarkable in itself AND that we can still have goals to achieve more?

3. Self Promotion supports our counterpart - As recruiters, how can we support candidates to express what they are proud of and what they want to take forward, in a way that helps the hiring manager to get interested and excited about how this person can add to the team? Can we frame self-promotion as being in service of your counterpart rather than feeling self-serving? This can help overcome personal modesty norms in collectivist cultures.

4. Values are hidden in our accomplishments - When people share their achievements we can really get a sense of what they value and what is driving them. It's a very powerful connector and everyone has fascinating stories behind what brought them here.

What is #IAmRemarkable?

#IAmRemarkable is a global movement that empowers everyone, including underrepresented groups, to celebrate their achievements in the workplace and beyond, while challenging the social perception around self-promotion. Learn more at iamremarkable.org
