出る杭は打たれる ? #IAmRemarkable

Thank you to the 5 participants who joined my 22nd probono #IAmRemarkable workshop on June 18th. It was as always inspiring to hear everyone’s perspectives on the topic (more details on #IAmRemarkable below). DM me if you would like to bring #IAmRemarkable to your organisation for free in 2026!

22nd #IAmRemarkable workshop participants from across APAC

In each session, I get different takeaways as a facilitator based on what the unique blend of participants brings to the session. From this session:

1. Cultural norms around self promotion hit underrepresented groups even harder. Framing sharing achievements around acts of service - to inspire others or to help for e.g. your manager get the most out of your capabilities might be one way to make it mentally easier.

2. 出る杭は打たれる (deru kui wa utareru). the nail that sticks out gets hammered down. What can each of us do to build environments where everyone is allowed to be recognised for their achievements? Building this type of space improves psychological safety, mental wellbeing and innovation in the organisation

3. Retelling our story - when we are at a crossroads in our career, this activity can help us to think about what achievements we want to bring with us on the next path. What do I want to continue to celebrate about myself and what do I want to grow?

About #IAmRemarkable

#IAmRemarkable is a global movement, reaching 550,000+ participants and fuelled by over 3,000 facilitators across 180 countries. We exist to empower everyone, including underrepresented groups, to celebrate their achievements in the workplace and beyond, while challenging the social perception around self-promotion. At the heart of our movement is a 90 minute workshop open to everyone, hosted by global facilitators. #IAmRemarkable, created at Google in 2016 under the leadership of Anna Vainer, has evolved into a program currently overseen by Rmrkblty, a non-profit organization founded by Anna Vainer.
