Artist Statement for 『シン・オンナ』 展 Vision’s Woman

Jennifer Shinkai is a British-born, Tokyo-based artist whose work weaves together themes of art, sports, and sustainability. As a passionate runner, she collects race and sporting event T-shirts—not just as memorabilia, but as materials rich with personal stories, aspirations, and emotional significance. These polyester shirts are often kept for sentimental reasons, yet are environmentally persistent and difficult to dispose of. Shinkai reclaims this vibrant material, transforming it into textile works that honour their history while giving them renewed purpose.

Her work invites viewers to feel the kinetic energy of past wearers through bold colour and tactile composition, and to reflect on the environmental and emotional legacy of the things we keep.

For the 『シン・オンナ』 展 Vision’s Woman she will be exhibiting works from 2023 -2025 including smaller pieces of wearable art made exclusively for the Osaka Expo.
